Maruša Krese (Slovenia / Austria / Germany)

Free-lance journalist, poet, writer and psychoterapist Maruša Krese is coming to Red Dawns directly from Chiapas! She will speak with Jasmina Jerant about feminist activism of Zapatista women and about her short story collection Vsi moji božiči (2006) that won the fabula award for best Slovenian short story collection in February 2008.

Maruša Krese (born in 1947 in Ljubljana) studied literary theory, history of art and psychiatry in Ljubljana, USA, UK and in The Netherlands. Between 1975 and 1990 she worked as a psychotherapist in Ljubljana, London and Tübingen, and since 1990 she has lived in Berlin as a free-lance artist and journalist. She has published a number of works abroad, among others: Gestern, Heute, Morgen (translated from Slovenian, published in 1993 by Suhrkamp Verlag, Frankfurt am Main), Von der Bora verweht. Ljubljana – Beograd – Sarajevo. Ein Feature (translated from Slovenian, published in 1998 by Drava Verlag, Klagenfurt/Celovec), Selbst das Testament ging verloren (translated from Slovenian, published in 2001 by Edition Korrespondenzen, Wien), Yorkshire Tasche / Yorkshire torba, Gedichte / Pesmi (translated from Slovenian, published in 2003 by Wieser Verlag / KulturKontakt Austria, Klagenfurt). Maruša Krese also writes radio plays and radio reportages. Her articles have been published in magazines and newspapers Die Zeit, Berliner Zeitung, TAZ, Lettre International, Manuskripte and others. In 2007, the initiators of the project Women with Visions listed her as one of the hundred most influential women in Europe. She is also know for her efforts in making strong humanitarian and cultural links between Germany and Bosnia.

She lives between Berlin, Graz and Ljubljana.
